Who we are

In short, we are three Belgian brothers who took up Lorcana Grimoire as a hobby to make it easier for new players to get started with Disney Lorcana, and for all players to brew good Disney Lorcana decks.

How we got here

There once were three brothers called The GRIMMnoir Bros. ... mmm... correction, we're still around ... This is happening right now! So let's start over!

Welcome to the Lorcana Grimoire! We are three brothers from Belgium who enjoy gaming. Brothers Mamba and Swallow have played Magic: the Gathering for a long time, casually with their friends, and Brother Woodswallow quite regularly at our local game store. Brother Emu however always stayed away from MtG and stuck to good old, very old actually, board games. But then, one day, he was pulled into trading card games by his children. Yes, of course it was Pokémon. The kids of Brother Mamba collected and played with it a bit as well, so we started talking about it. As we were a bit too old to get hooked when we were kids, we had to learn quite a bit about the Pokémon card game to play a real game. Brother Woodswallow even took Brother Emu and his kids to the local game store and introduced them to the social world of trading card games.

And then... Disney Lorcana was launched. Brother Emu spotted it in our local game store and was thrilled about the art, the nostalgia, the straightforward gameplay and especially how the kids reacted. He bought some starter decks and invited his brothers for an introduction game.

And that's when the story of Lorcana Grimoire started...

But how, you ask? Well... although Brother Emu had played the game before and owned the decks, Brothers Mamba and Woodswallow quickly started commenting about card synergy, deck consistency, play patterns and more. Although they didn't know the game or any of the cards, they could immediately play the game at a deeper level. So Brother Emu asked how he could catch up. Where could he learn this stuff about the rules, deck building or card synergy?

To his shock, Brothers Mamba and Woodswallow explained that they used a number of websites for MtG. Each website in their respective niche: card search, best performing competitive decks, forums, articles by players, ... And nothing that truly helps a novice build their first decks or understand the game better. Each specific site mostly helps experienced gamers who learned the game ... by playing... And that's for a game that started in the nineties!

Now, you must know... Brother Emu has a can-do/will-do/let's-go mindset and works in IT, so he told/asked his brothers, the experienced TCG players: "Why don't we build it? A website that helps kids, novices and experienced players alike how to play, but especially how to build a good deck. What does that website need to do? I'm sure I can build it if you two can provide the content!" Brother Mamba happens to be a logical thinker with a legal background (and a filthy netdecker), while Brother Woodswallow is a creative mind with a knack for (whacky) deck building. We came to the conclusion that the three of us could actually make a good team for this. So that evening, we said "why don't we try and see where the journey takes us..."
